Our commitment to all stakeholders is to act responsibly and proactively on environmental, social, and health and safety issues and to conduct all our business activities in a manner consistent with the values and behaviors expressed in our corporate policies and procedures. Northgate’s corporate goal is to find, develop and operate mines in an environmentally and socially sustainable fashion while providing economic benefits to the surrounding communities and an appropriate rate of return to Northgate’s shareholders.  We seek to achieve this goal by aligning the interests of our company, our employees and our shareholders with the broader communities in which we operate.

Northgate is committed to follow sustainable mining practices during all phases of the mining life cycle (exploration, development, metal production and site remediation) in order to minimize the measurable affects that our activities have on life, health and the environment. In addition, as we are keenly focused on the safety of our employees at all of our operations, all levels of management are committed to operating our mines and exploration projects in accordance with our permits and the laws and regulations of the jurisdictions in which we operate.

To help ensure that Northgate follows sustainable mining practices and adheres to its corporate social responsibilities, Northgate’s Board of Directors has appointed a Health, Safety & Environment Committee (link to Corporate Governance page) to assess the effectiveness of the Corporation’s programs, initiatives and policies in these areas.  The Committee’s mandate is to assist the Board in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities by assessing the effectiveness of health, safety and environmental related programs, initiatives and policies of the Corporation, ensuring compliance and effectiveness of all systems and programs with governing laws, certifications and regulations.  The Committee regularly visits Northgate’s operations and receives reports on health and safety performance from management at each of Northgate’s operations on a quarterly basis.
